Now that you’ve logged in, you can search for items or browse the upcoming auctions. Once you’ve found what you’re looking for, there are photos and information to review along with consignor information. You may contact the seller directly to ask any questions you may have about the item.

When you are ready to bid, there are two options to choose from:

  • Enter the next suggested dollar amount available and click on the Bid Now button.
  • You may also enter a maximum bid, also known as an Absentee Bid, if you are unable to follow the item until the end of the auction. This allows you to enter the highest dollar amount you are willing to pay for the item. Gavel Roads will automatically bid the next increment for you if you have been outbid. Gavel Roads will continue to bid on your behalf as necessary for you to remain the highest bidder or to meet the reserve price up to the maximum bid you entered. Let Gavel Roads do your bidding for you.

Once you’ve submitted your bid, you should see one of the following:

  • You are the highest bidder! This means you are in the lead to win your item.
  • You have been outbid. This means that another buyer has bid a higher dollar amount. You will receive an email notifying you that you are no longer the highest bidder, and you will need to raise your bid or enter a new maximum bid amount in order to win the item.
  • Reserve has not yet been met. This means the consignor has placed a minimum selling price on the item and your bid has not exceeded that amount. You should place a higher bid to win the item.

If you or another buyer have bid within 5 minutes of the ending time of the auction, the closing time will be extended an additional 5 minutes. This will continue until there are no bids inside of the 5 minute window of the auction closing time. The extended time feature is in place so that each buyer is given ample time to increase their bid to win the item.

Once you have won an item, you will receive an email informing you that you’ve won. Gavel Roads will follow up with an invoice emailed to you including the 10% Buyer’s Premium and all applicable sales tax applied. There you will find instructions on making payment. Gavel Roads accepts credit card purchases up to $2000, ACH, or wire transfers. Once you have paid for an item, Gavel Roads will email you a receipt, and you will be responsible to contact the seller and manage the transfer of the item you purchased.
